What are the different formats of resumes available?

Resume is vital

Everyone will be completing his education and searching for his first job with a resume in hand. If that is not his first job, then the resume will have work experience. But he cannot assure that he will win that interview. Although he could not assure getting hired, he can start impressing the interviewer with his attractive resume. There will be several professional resume templates available online that you can download and create your own. As there are several resume formats available, let us discuss them first. 
 

Chronological resumes

You would be familiar with this type of resume. It will be a flat resume with a complete focus on the work experience of a candidate. You will see the candidate’s work experience in reverse chronological order with the latest on the top. If you do not have enough skill sets to show off to the employers or you have tremendous and prestigious work experience, you can go for this type of resume. Initially, there will be contact information followed by the educational qualification. Afterward, the entire spotlight will be on the work journey and achievements in each company with the duration of work there. Also, you have to be sure that all of your work experience aligns with the job profile that you are applying to. If your experience is irrelevant and there are no skillsets in the chronological resume, you may be thrown out without consideration. 

Functional resumes

Functional means anything that is in action. So, it is describing the requirement of skills. In these resumes, the focus will be on the professional, interpersonal, communicational, and managerial skills of the candidate than the work experience. Even if you have work experience only from a startup, you can get a high-profile job when you have all the skills required for that. But the resume dependent on skills should highlight your capabilities instead of work experience. Also, if you are changing your field of work completely or coming back to work after a long gap, you should rely on a functional resume as chronological will not work in this case. 

Combinational resumes

It is the integration of the above two types of curriculum vitae. If you want to highlight your work experience along with the skills you have, you can go for these combinational resumes. As there will be several explanations and details of both your skills and work, these resumes will be slightly longer. But you should try to make it precise and compact as much as possible.

Targeted resumes

You may be an expert in digital marketing but with years of experience in some irrelevant fields along with DM. In this case, if you write a resume for a DM company indicating all of your capabilities including that irrelevant field, your resume will become a booklet and will not be effective. So, you can decide to remove irrelevant experience and skills to keep the qualifications and achievements in the digital marketing field alone.
